Description
The Alfred Jenks & Co facility in Bridesburg, PA had one of the largest contracts for arms awarded during the Civil War. This musket is one of their fine products.
The weapon has armory bright cleaned metal parts all over. Front and rear sight are present. Rear sight has both flip-up leaves. Breech area has a good “VP” and eagle head. Top of breech is lightly pitted. Bore has good rifling but it is dark with scattered pitting in several spots. Nipple is original and shows some dirt and pitting around its base.
Lock plate matches the barrel for the most part but has been lightly cleaned giving it a semi-bright appearance. It has a strong spread-winged eagle and “US” over “BRIDESBURG” forward of the hammer and a strong 1862 behind it. Hammer matches barrel and the action is good.
All three barrel bands are present and stamped with a horizontal “U.” Bands and band springs match the rest of the iron on the weapon.
Walnut stock is dark and is mostly free of dings and dents. There is also a faint inspector’s cartouche mark just forward of the trigger guard on the bottom of the stock.
Buttplate matches the rest of the metal on the rifle and has a strong “US” on tang. Trigger guard matches as well. Both sling swivels are present.
