Battleground Antiques has been actively engaged in the collection and trade of antiques, coins, fine arts, and collectibles since 1981.

As a nationally-known specialist in antiques and original American Civil War-era Union and Confederate memorabilia, we have actively consulted to the industry for decades, on both the private collector and national institution levels. Will is currently retained by several national museums as an authenticator and certified vendor.

We offer a wide range of appraisal and authentication services. While our field of specialization is the American Civil War, our militaria and artifact expertise spans from the 1500’s to modern times – including the recent appraisal of artifacts found on the Blackbeard’s pirate ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge!

We have experience in estate settlements and giving expert court witness testimony, and can travel to accommodate your needs!

With over 10,000+ clients worldwide, we can immediately reach out to collectors and institutions you would spend decades searching for.  If your asking price is simply not reasonable based on market conditions or demand, we’ll let you know.  We reserve the sole right to evaluate current retail value and often can arrange lateral transactions that will ultimately net the same amount–at our professional discretion, ANY items marketed are under our complete control while in our possession and all consignors must grant us full latitude in the manner we market goods.

Research, Evaluations & Appraisals

We provide expert research, consultations and fee based valuations of your antique items.  Our standard rate for a walk through evaluation is $250 per on-site hour plus the standard NC state rate mileage cost, round trip (or additional related travel expense,  if air travel is required).  Itemized evaluations on letterhead are available at additional cost.  We do not charge for travel time unless the trip is over one business day (8 hours).

 

If a collection or individual item is purchased by us at the time of visit, consultation and travel fees are waived.  We generally purchase at 80% of current retail but items of lesser quality and demand may be as low as 50%. Cash payments can be arranged if so desired.

Textile Restoration & Conservation

Historic Textiles Studio houses an 80 square foot stainless steel wet tank serviced by a deionized water system.

We offer fiber analysis, fabric dating, stabilization, exhibition mount construction, wet cleaning, and storage evaluation / consultation.

All fees other than standard published rates are negotiated at the time of contact, and most do not require formal contracts. Larger collections and long-distance travel (over 300 miles) are performed under legal contract with set fees. All information exchanged is strictly CONFIDENTIAL and treated as such. Neither our client base or mailing list is ever made public nor sold or released in any manner. All employees, regardless of position, must sign legal contracts to that effect.
