Description

Always remove the tins in a cartridge box because sometimes you will find a treasure!  This well-worn banknote from July 17, 1855 was found folded in the bottom compartment of a standard US cartridge box!  It is a $5 dollar note drawn on the Bank of the Republic, Providence, Rhode Island as printed by the American Banknote Company of New York.  As with most all original Civil War era notes, it is hand signed and numbered.  Why did the soldier put it there or did he forget he did?  Reckon we’ll never really know!
