Description
This is a gigantic firearm any way you look at it, and the sword bayonet is likewise a BEAST! Just as found in a home in southern Iowa, about 2,000 of these were known imported from Europe at the outbreak of the Civil War with most going to Iowa or Indiana troops. The soldiers despised them in the field as they were extremely heavy and the powder charge was enough to send a normal farmboy rocking! This is a fine example of the government scrambling to find anything that would shoot in order to arm troops in the field. Few, if any, were known sold to Southern states.
