Description

This was the smallest caliber Hotchkiss Rifle pattern manufactured and it is the rarest variety of the Civil War made. It was used in the 2.6″ Wiard Rifle and was called the Wiard-Hotchkiss projectile.  Hotchkiss projectiles were manufactured in three pieces: a nose, a lead band, and a base cup.  This is the nose section only but a wonderful addition to any Civil War artillery collection–very, very difficult to find.  The exact location where it was found is unknown other than from Virginia, but may have been recovered near Rappahannock Station.
