Always a toss up with me as to whether this pattern is actually US or CS, as most Dyer shells have 4 flame grooves in the sabot and this one has three! Either way, it is a very nice battlefield excavated shell from the Petersburg area of Virginia–and fit a 3″/10 lb. rifled field gun.
