Description

One of the more difficult to locate patterns of Civil War sword, technically this is a US Model 1840 Militia Sergeant’s sword by pattern.  The blade is very stout as you can see, and the original scabbard has a clean break in the middle (easily repaired).  This type of sword was used from the early 1840s through the Civil War era, but most of the Civil War examples have a very skinny blade compared to the earlier types.  It surfaced in central Pennsylvania decades ago with no related history.  This is a critical addition to any collection of actual field used and carried Civil War era edged weapon collection.
