Description
Very hefty and well made example of an artillery officer type sword as made for the American market. Swords such as this are known to be made both in Solingen, Germany as well as Pennsylvania and New York in the early 19th century. Many were used in the Seminole and Mexican Wars as well as early in the Civil War, too. Other than for an American shield with stars and similar motifs, it is unmarked. There is no scabbard, which likely would have been either brass mounted leather or all brass. A classic American form.
