Description
This is a fantastic original example of the standard Union cavalry shell jacket as made expressly for sergeants. Shell jackets were shipped out to the field in packets of 12 coats–1 musician, 1 corporal, 1 sergeant and 9 privates–you can tell this is one of the arsenal produced units because the chevrons were sewn in the original jacket seams as shown, and not added later on as most are. This jacket is in near mint overall condition with a full lining and clear maker/inspector marks in the sleeve. Only a dozen or less are currently known to exist out of the THOUSANDS manufactured. Museum and investment grade.
