Exceptional example of the US M1840 Medical Staff sword by Horstmann, Philadelphia, which belonged to Surgeon Cobb.  Included with his fine sword are TWO original field diaries with great combat content regarding Vicksburg and surrounding areas in 1863.  Fully documented and once in the prestigious Lewis Leigh Collection.

Enlisted on 9/16/1862 as a Asst Surgeon.

On 9/16/1862 he was commissioned into Field & Staff IA 35th Infantry 
He was Mustered Out on 8/10/1865 at Davenport, IA
