Description

Very early Civil War Colt Model 1860 .44 Army percussion revolver, 1861 production. The primary serial number is 45241 but the barrel and cylinder are numbered 12810, but the matching overall patina and condition reflect that this is indeed the way the weapon was carried and used. This old war horse surfaced in a remote section of northwest Florida directly from the family who insisted it had been carried by their ancestor, a Florida Confederate named Augustus O. MacDonell who served initially as a Private but rose to a Captain in the 1st Florida Infantry. He survived both the War and being a Prisoner of War at Johnson’s Island so it is unclear how he managed to get his pistol back home–so unfortunately, no positive owner identification can be stated beyond what the family stated and documented. The pistol is well used and clearly was carried extensively and there are three neatly carved notches in the upper right grip….

The upper tip of the loading lever assembly by the release pin is long gone–typical of weapons use A LOT!

A very honest old veteran Colt priced very reasonably for the collector or enthusiast.
