Description
Scarce Remington Civil War .44 percussion revolver, Transitional Old Army Model 1861. One of approximately 9,000 manufactured, this example has a super low serial number of 7140 indicating early 1862 manufacture. Unlike the standard type, it has the modified loading lever as seen on the New Model Army which was introduced in late 1862 to early 1863. The barrel marking is crisp as is the mechanical action. The left grip has a shadow of a US inspector cartouche in the wood. The cylinder shows heavy firing use and is covered with salt and pepper pitting–this old gem was fired A LOT! Priced well below market if you want one that was clearly “there.”
