Description

Exceptional Civil War standard box for the .58 minie ball by Hoover, Calhoun & Company of NYC circa 1861-1863.  The box has a name pencilled inside so with some patience and research you MIGHT just find the soldier who carried it.  This fine box came from a Massachusetts Historical Society collection and has been professionally treated–the only evident damage is a slight tear in the outer flap latch tab as shown.  Absolutely stunning for display, and an early one–after 1863 most did not have the solder filled US plates and were finished in black.
