Description
Decent and inexpensive original example of the standard issue cartridge box from 1863-1865. No tins are present and overall the condition is sound, but there are old cracks and minor breaks at some seams. Great item for display and appears field used. This is typically called the Type I M1864 cartridge box and was manufactured as early as 1863. It likely had an oval US plate when originally issued but in the field, they typically were discarded as they served no function other to add weight. It is important to note that soldiers in the field often removed the tins as well for faster access to ammunition in combat.
