Description
Very clean example of this famous pattern of US cavalry weapon, the Heavy also called “Old Wristbreaker” by troopers of the era. This example was likely manufactured in Solingen, Germany and imported as early as 1839 or as late as 1864…it is completely devoid of maker or inspector marks but does have assembly numbers stamped in the hilt. Many of these weapons were used by the South and examples are plentiful–but generally not with as nice of a blade or scabbard. The grip has been professionally restored to museum specifications and looks excellent. Some of these were known shipped to South Carolina in late 1860 to mid 1861 as well and were sold by William Glaze of Columbia, SC, which later became known as the Palmetto Armory.
