Description
Very nice overall Burnside as manufactured in early 1863 and by Springfield Research Service records, falls within the range of carbines issued to the 2nd Texas (Union) Cavalry in 1863-1864. The carbine is well marked, has a strong bore, functions properly and has an old repair near the toe of the buttstock as shown (with square cut nails).
The 2nd Texas UNION Cavalry:
Organized at Brownsville, Texas, December 15, 1863. Served Unattached Cavalry, 13th Army Corps, Texas, Dept. of the Gulf, to June, 1864. Cavalry Brigade, United States Forces, Texas, to June, 1864. District of Morganza, Dept. of the Gulf, to August, 1864. Separate Cavalry Brigade, 19th Corps, Dept. of the Gulf, to November, 1864.
SERVICE.–Duty at Brownsville and on the Rio Grande, Texas, until July, 1864. Ordered to New Orleans, La., thence to Morganza August 6, and duty there fill November. Consolidated with 1st Texas Cavalry November 1, 1864.
