Description
Although it is debated whether the tinned cartridge is early or late Civil War, the scarce cup base projectiles are generally only found in tinned cases and in 1861-1862 campsites and battlefields. The vast number of plain brass cases are the most common ones encountered. This example is tinned, which may have been done specifically for Burnside’s early War coastal troops to slow down corrosion from salt water exposure–nobody knows for sure. All that is positively known is that the tinned cases are very scarce and seldom encountered. This example came from a decades old collection we just purchased and can be YOURS!
