Description

Fine example of a pretty scarce Civil War imported bayonet, complete with the original iron mounted leather scabbard.  The blade on this item is near flat MINT–the pressed, checked leather grips are likewise fine.  The original scabbard is unbroken and in very good condition with only minor flaking and scuffing as shown.  This bayonet is completely devoid of markings other than for some stamped in rack or assembly numbers on the pommel, typical for Confederate imports early in the War.  It was manufactured to fit the Pattern 1856 Tower Enfield 2-band rifle of caliber .577 which was heavily imported early in the Civil War.  Tough item to find, especially for under $525!

We purchased this one recently from a walk-in at a Civil War show in western Georgia, directly from the family member who found it in the attic of the old home–unfortunately, they knew no history at all about it or their own family.
