Description
This is a fine example of the Maryland oval belt plate with the tongue and puppy paw studs intact just as recovered from a private farm near the Antietam Battlefield in Maryland in the 1990s. It was once in the collection of noted author and collector William “Bill” Gavin. The face is near flawless and the reverse has some oxidation to the lead as shown. These plates are very rare and do not often come into the collector market this nice. It is a perfect addition to any Confederate buckle and plate collection of fine Civil War relics.
