Description
This fantastic edged weapon was once in the famed collection of noted author and collector Harold Peterson and is made in the style typical for Philadelphia and New York in the very early 19th century. The beautiful gold inlaid eagle on the blued blade has 17 stars in the shield, indicating it was manufactured between 1802 and 1813. The gold plated brass scabbard is elaborately tooled and the massive flat head eagle pommel has stunning detail. The ivory grip is in fine condition as well and overall this beautiful work of military art is absolutely unmolested and has never even been polished or cleaned–just recently we coated the blade with a silicon based oil to bring out the vivid colors (done AFTER images were taken so you could see how it came to us). The guard is rather unique in shape and this beauty was meant to be functional in combat! Museum and investment grade all the way. If you appreciate fine Americana, it doesn’t get much better than this.
