Description
Very honest as-found example of the standard Virginia sword belt plate as used from the mid-1850s through the end of the Civil War. This example was likely manufactured by Emerson Gaylord of Chicopee, Massachusetts, prior to the War at the same time he produced plates for Maryland. The plate is missing the tongue clasp as shown and is a bit flattened–otherwise, very clear and crisp face, uncleaned or modified in any way, 100% authentic and original and NOT an easy buckle to find! It was recovered in the Petersburg, Virginia area according to notes from the previous owner.
