Description
This is a very crisp example of the standard Pattern 1853 Rifled musket as manufactured in England in 1861. It has been lightly cleaned and burnished overall at some point in time and there is a hairline crack near the rear lockplate screw as you can see, but functionality and bore is excellent. The ramrod and rear sight are original. The breech is proof marked “24” which indicates .58 caliber instead of the more common .577 (25). The edges of the wood are crisp and the wood is smooth, as are the metal surfaces. If you ever wanted a NICE one to shoot, here ya go! This same weapon was sold in January 2020 from the website of Rafael Eledge, Shiloh Relics.
