Super honest and unmolested example of the English Tower Enfield P56 iron mounted army rifle in .577 caliber as snuck in via the Blockade in 1862. This gun has never been sanded, wire wheeled or even polished making it a rather scarce item-almost all of these found now have been messed with in some way. The ramrod, sword bayonet stud, sights, sling swivels and all integral parts are original and the action is fully functional. The bore is very good and the overall metal exhibits scattered salt and pepper oxidation. Very few of these exist when compared to the P53 3-band rifled muskets of the Tower pattern. The barrel is devoid of any proof marks at all, as is the iron furniture. There is a very strong chance this one could whistle Dixie! Very honest and inexpensive example of a highly prized Civil War weapon. As with many of the pre-1863 imports, the stock has a heavy ORIGINAL oiled varnish mostly intact.
