Description
This old .44 war relic is serial number 129,816 which indicates manufacture in 1863. It is still in the original military issue flap holster and is clearly stamped on the bottom of the grip “C.H. Greeley.” Greely has a solid service record which includes being wounded in action at Todd’s Tavern in Virginia in 1864. The gun is all matching other than the cylinder, which is not uncommon with cavalry weapons as they often carried spare loaded cylinders in action. The overall patina is untouched and the weapon was last sold by Norm Flayderman, noted militaria dealer, in 1989. Action is tight and crisp. It is accompanied by service records from the National Archives.
