Description
This is a fine example of the very popular .69 smoothbore single shot percussion musket manufactured at the Harpers Ferry, Virginia, Federal arsenal. The lockplate is dated 1847 and the barrel 1848, making this example one which could have seen action in two major national conflicts. Overall, the mechanics are crisp and strong and there is minimal pitting on the iron parts (which appear to have been lightly cleaned many years ago). The weapon surfaced in Tennessee at an estate sale and could easily have been used by a Union or Confederate infantryman. This is a very, very nice original weapon!
