Description
Honest example of the standard production warhorse of the Union infantry as used in both the Mexican and Civil Wars. Dated 1844, this fine old weapon retains the original trumpet ramrod but both sling swivels have been removed–a trait known used by Confederate infantry who rarely used slings. Found in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, this fine old weapon is in “attic” untouched condition. It is sound and solid and the bore is very good. The weapon functions as it should and other than for an old tack in the stock, likely used to tighten a small crack, it has only use and field wear overall. Chambered in .69 caliber percussion, this beast of a personal cannon would fire both round ball, buck and ball and even minie balls–but with no rifling, they had about the same range as the other projectiles. The walnut stock has some random carved initials but no family provenance or use is documented. Shipping is complimentary to the lower 48 United States. Other areas, please enquire.
