Description
This rifle musket cartridge box is a bit different, as the leather is superb (almost more like fine pigskin or calf grade) compared to most and the grade of finish is very high overall. It was made from 1855 up to 1863 by the style (no provision for a belt loop) and has an added narrow loop on the reverse, making it almost appear Confederate assembled. One bottom sling buckle is missing. The US plate is near mint and a perfect fit but there are no leather or wooden tabs holding it in place. Both tins are original and overall condition is very good to fine. This relic surfaced in an estate sale near Durham Station, NC, just a few weeks ago and had no related history but there were several Confederate buttons and documents in the same estate. No matter which side used it, the box is very solid other than for some minor tears to the outer latch tab and the scratches and scuffs you can see in the images provided. Bargain priced, and complimentary shipping to the lower 48 United States (other areas enquire).
