Description

This well crafted and finished pistol was manufactured for export, likely to England, near the turn of the century from 1790 to 1800 and is a type often associated with the early Napoleonic Wars in Europe.

Other than for part of the trigger guard tang not snugly fitting in the hand carved channel (can likely be put in with epoxy), the action and functions are near flawless. The detailed embellishment on the hammer exhibits the very advanced skill level of a master artisan gunsmith of the era. The barrel is .50 caliber smoothbore—so this may well have at one time been part of a set of dueling pistols as the ramrod is actually faux, being carved as part of the forestock. Overall length is approximately 16”.

Trabzon, historically known as Trebizond in English, is a city on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey and the capital of Trabzon Province.
