Description
This is a super honest weapon with a deep untouched brown patina overall and all matching numbers (2649). Mechanically, it is tight and the action is crisp, as are all markings. The cylinder, however, fails to rotate properly at times—likely a small spring is either broken or has lost tension over the years. This weapon has a 4.5” barrel and is a copy of the Colt Model 1862 Police revolver. These quality arms were priced about half of what a Colt cost, so were very popular secondary martial pistols with soldiers.
Manufactured in New York from 1864 until 1866, the small company couldn’t compete with Colt or Smith and Wesson. Based on the serial number, it was manufactured in the Fall of 1864.
