Description
One of the very first produced after the “squareback” model, this antebellum M1851 Colt Navy was manufactured early to mid 1851. It has a wonderful unmolested patina, crisp action, strong bore, near flawless markings and a vivid cylinder scene. All numbers match. It retains generous traces of the original silver wash on the brass triggerguard and backstrap. These fine weapons have wonderful balance and were widely carried in the Gold Rush era and by both Northern and Southern soldiers during the Civil War and afterwards, many saw plains life with both settlers and Indians. You won’t see a much nicer one this early in this price range!
