Description
This is a beautiful example of the famous Sharps carbine that saw Civil War use and then was sent back to government and Sharps armories to convert to the powerful .50-70 metallic cartridge. The metal retains 70%+ original blue and scattered case colors and all markings are crisp and clear. The original buttplate, incised for a patchbox, was retained when the stock was replaced at the armory (as most all were). The inspector stamp in the stock is as crisp as when it was put in circa 1867. These weapons were the mainstay of western cavalry for a decade or more and were far superior in function the M1873 Trapdoor Springfields that ultimately replaced them in the field. If you want a REALLY nice one, here it is.
