Description
Ambrotype in gutta percha case, 1/9th plate, 1st Maryland Infantry, Confederate States of America. The name in the case is W.K. Howard, but I have been informed by a reliable source that the face does not match known images of that particular soldier. You can clearly see “1 MD” on the front of the cap–perhaps a period mix up? Still a great Maryland image, just not who we thought it was!
