Description
This is a fine example of the standard .577 English Rifle Musket as imported during the American Civil War. Once issued to British forces, the cancelled broad arrow markings prove it was one of the examples sold in early 1861 as military surplus, mainly to Southern Confederate purchasing agents. This weapon is in fine mechanical condition overall and the wood is a far higher grade than most later examples known. At some point in time, the original blue finish was redone (they all came blued, by the way) making it look much as it did when it left the factory in 1858, other than for normal wear which came from actual field use. This is one of the nicer looking examples on the market and a great addition to any collection.
