Really fresh, historical and honest Colt SAA with factory letter documenting that it was shipped along with 11 others to Marcos Russek of Jimenez, Mexico, March 24, 1904. Russek (Marcos Russek Ramirez) was born in 1887 in Jimenez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Marcus Russek Friligth and Matilde Ramirez Chavez. He owned a mercantile store in Jiminez and was on the board of the local bank. He began purchasing dozens of Colt pistols around that time likely due to the massive amount of civil unrest. Villa’s revolutionary forces raided the town several times, ultimately looting and burning Russek’s store. A local newspaper noted that Villa himself had stolen a fine mare belonging to Russek as well. Russek left Mexico and was living in Los Angeles, California by 1917. He later moved to Nogales, Arizona and went back to Mexico in 1930. Russek was living in Mexico City when he died in 1956.
This particular Colt has a 5.5” barrel and was blued when shipped. The left side of the barrel is clearly marked Bisley Model Colt Frontier Six Shooter. Overall condition is very good to fine and all markings are clear and legible. The action is tight and crisp and the grips are original to the handgun. Included with the weapon is the Colt factory letter and quite a bit of information on Russek as well as pictures of him and of his business letterhead in Jimenez. If this one could only talk!
