Description
Often called a boot pistol, muff pistol or peanut, this little single action gem has no maker mark but is likely a product of Allen and Wheelock. The action is tight and crisp and the overall size is right at 6 ¾” long. These pistols were extremely popular as backup guns for soldiers and were also carried by gamblers and ladies of the night. This example was manufactured in the late 1850s based on the overall form and was found in an old home near Atlanta, Georgia. It could easily have been carried by a soldier from North or South.
