Description
This is a very nice example of an original sabre bayonet for the Enfield Pattern 1856 two band rifles as used in the American Civil War. The leather cross checked grip is complete and the locking mechanism is intact. The leather sheath is in very fine condition, as is the throg, which has a name and other information scratched in it—can’t really make it out clearly and as we have no clue when it was carved in, it is disregarded for pricing purposes. This item popped out of an estate sale (found hanging on a nail in the attic of the home) near Luray, Virginia a few months ago along with two Civil War long guns but no family documentation or provenance was offered.
