Description

If you ever wanted one in the same condition as it was at the end of the War that has never been cleaned or tampered with, look no more.  This transitional 3rd Model Burnside Percussion carbine was manufactured in late 1863 to early 1864 and from the serial number, it was most likely issued to the 2nd Illinois Cavalry, according to Springfield Research databases.

It is missing the lower butt swivel and screw, the saddle ring and part of the iron hinge pin lever for the breech block is broken off as shown.  The inspector cartouche is visible and the matching serial numbers are all legible.  Action is tight and crisp and the bore is far above average for most examples that were actually issued and used.  The walnut stocks are in near fine condition and the metal parts are uniformly brown as a proverbial berry!
