Description

Wow, if this old relic could talk—this is a super honest Colt .31 caliber revolver  with 4” barrel made before the start of the Civil War.  It is totally brown overall and shows many years of wear and hard use, yet all parts are matching.  About 25% cylinder scene remains (you can read the serial number clearly) and the barrel marking is visible beneath centuries of grime and patina. The oiled walnut grips show even wear and are free of cracks or chips.

By family history, this pistol was carried by a Confederate soldier named “Hodges” who was from Greensboro, NC, but no reliable documentation is available and there are many soldiers by that name.  The cylinder rotates and the mainspring works, but the gun doesn’t cock on its own—with some cleaning and tuning, it should be fine, but I sell them like I buy them.  Very inexpensive example of a pre-War Colt known favored by soldiers in the field.
