Description
One of the most popular themed burl briarwood pipes manufactured in the Civil War era, this kepi wearing Zouave is elegantly carved with great detail. The only flaw is the tiny brass hinge has come loose from the bowl—easily remedied if you so desire.
The stem is carved and appears original to the period of use and there is still a trace of tobacco inside. First one I’ve seen on the collector market in over a decade and fresh from an estate sale in central Massachusetts. I know of at least two others that were associated with Confederate New Orleans soldiers—could be Union or Confederate used.
