This is honestly the finest original set of fringed epaulettes I think I have ever seen, and definitely the most original. The bullion is in flawless condition and the kidney shaped tin even retains the original tissue paper the epaulettes were packed in.
This item surfaced in an estate sale near Worcester, Massachusetts in the early 1970s and was snatched up by the well known New England dealer Jim Stamatelos (“The Sutlers Wagon”). The set just recently came back on the market when the old collection it was in was liquidated.
If you want to own what a young officer carried off to the Civil War in 1861, you won’t find a better or more honest original grouping anywhere at any price.
