Description
This is a completely honest attic find weapon that likely saw service in several wars including the Mexican War and Civil War. It is a standard .69 smoothbore musket and has no replaced or altered parts other than the ramrod, which appears to have been used with it forever.
There is an old crack at the wrist as shown—other than that, it is a very solid example of one of the primary weapons of two major wars. It was found in the attic of an old house near Hawthorn, Missouri but unfortunately there was no related history. The house was built around 1835 and the weapon was up in the rafters for many decades—the owners of the home were not even aware it was there until they had electrical work done! A hidden treasure, found.
