Description

Talk about a scarce one!  The vast majority of Virginia Manufactory muskets were converted to percussion and in the process, the lockplate engraving was virtually destroyed.  This example has a fine, near crisp marking and a very strong date of 1818 on the lockplate. This is technically a Type II musket but many call them transitionals–there is very little actual differences between the three models and all were manufactured expressly for the use of Virginia state militia infantry.

This example is well market, basically unmolested, and a very pleasing attic brown overall.  Everything functions properly, too.  Not an easy antebellum military weapon to locate in this strong of condition!
