Description
This plate was purchased by a gentleman from Texas, T.J. MaConkey, in the early 1980s from Dr. Francis Lord, noted Civil War author, who had obtained it directly from the author of Civil War beltplates Sydney Kerksis! The old markings on the back indicate it was recovered in 1948 in the area known as the “Slaughter Pen.” It has the color often called “grave patina” often found on items recovered from the area where soldiers fell. A unique opportunity to own an item from one of the original pioneer men who are credited with Civil War collecting in America.
