Description
This sword surfaced in central Massachusetts in a tag sale but had no related history, unfortunately. It was manufactured in Solingen, Germany, and imported to the US circa 1861-1862 where a local jeweler or supplier added elaborate hand engraving on the mounts. The blade is very crisp and bright with generous original frosting and many patriotic US motifs. The original grip and wire remains as does the leather scabbard. A truly fine example of the type of sword carried by line infantry officers up to the rank of Major.
