Description
This is an outstanding example of the Pattern 1856 English infantry rifle as imported to the Confederacy circa 1861. It was professionally refinished in the 1960s and is absolutely beautiful overall. At some point in time, the stud for the sword bayonet got removed. While it does not have any of the recognized Confederate import/export stamps, neither does it have any associated with either the Union OR the English army!
It came from an estate sale in western Georgia many years ago with no related history other than having been used in the Civil War. Priced hundreds of dollars below the typical pricing.
