Description
This old war horse, #83,577, falls in the known range of weapons issued to the 5th Illinois Cavalry in late 1863 to early 1864. The left grip is a period replacement and three screws are likewise not original to the weapon. Markings are crisp, the action is good, and there are traces of original blue finish in several areas. The .44 bore is above average for these hard used weapons of war.
