This is a very strong example of this extremely popular secondary martial revolver carried by many soldiers in the field. These weapons were extremely reliable and potent at close range. This example retains 10%+/- original blue finish and all markings are crisp and clear. The fine polished rosewood grips are excellent. Mechanically, it functions flawlessly.
It has a 6” barrel and a rolled patent date on the cylinder. The Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Army revolver was a six shot, .32 caliber single action revolver that fired a .32 caliber rimfire cartridge. The revolver was introduced in 1861 and remained in production until 1874. During that time, about 77,155 of the revolvers were manufactured.
Those pistols under serial number 35,731 were produced prior to May 1, 1865 and are considered revolvers that may have seen Civil War use. Based on factory information, this weapon was manufactured circa late 1864.
