Description
Spectacular 18k gold cased pocket watch as manufactured by Barwick Royal Exchange, London, key wind, inscribed in case “Presented by the Printers of the National Bank Note Company to their foreman, Andrew Cullen, Nov. 1st, 1862.”
National Bank Note received its first order by early 1860 and in mid-1861, won the contract to print all U.S. postage stamps.
This company has quite a bit more notoriety because in 1861, the National Bank Note Company of New York printed a million dollars in Confederate notes and successfully smuggled them to the rebel government in Montgomery, Alabama!
