Description
Solid example of one of the best cavalry handguns of the American Civil War, the massive Starr .44 SA!This fine weapon functions properly, has clear markings, a strong bore and the lightest trigger pull I have ever felt on a Civil War handgun. The only minor distraction is one of the percussion nipples is broken off.
The trace of the US military inspector cartouche remains in the grip and all numbers are matching. It was manufactured circa January of 1863 and the serial number aligns in the range of known weapons issued to the 7th Michigan cavalry according to the Springfield Research database.
Overall, it is an honest dull gray overall with no harsh abrasive marks visible but no original finish remains. Weapons like this are becoming more difficult to find every year so if you’re missing this model in your collection, you seriously need to snag it!
