Description
Exceptionally fine example of the Light Artillery (Mounted) sabre as manufactured by Ames Manufacturing of Chicopee, Massachusetts, in 1864. This sword has a near mint blade with no significant edge nicks and even retains the original factory cross hatch polish marks at the ricasso. The iron scabbard is likewise near fine with only a few minor dents and dings from age and use. This sword retains the full original leather throat washer and grip (which has been coated in a “liquid leather” museum grade preservative to prevent flaking) and also has the full original double strand twisted brass wire present. Visible US inspector marks are on the ricasso and drag.
